Part-time WordPress/PHP Developer

The firm serves an international clientele from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies and has been in business for 20 years. We’re seeking a WordPress developer to work on the UI/frontend of an internal tool as part of a mid-sized team of developers, QA, and product.

The WordPress Developer is responsible for both back-end and front-end development, including creating WordPress themes and plugins. They have different programming skills; namely, PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. They have also understanding of aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the color and font choices, and so on).

We expect you to have a strong understanding of latest industry trends and content management systems. You will also:

-Participate as a key member of the Development Team.
-Participate in web development projects and knowledge share sessions.
-Mentor other members of the development team.
-Design and implement new features and functionality.
-Establish and guide the website’s architecture.
-Ensure high-performance and availability, and manage all technical aspects of the CMS.
-Help formulate an effective, responsive design and turn it into a working theme and plugin.

Team Interaction:

-Creative – Work with designers to create HTML representations of designs and prototypes.
-UX/Information Architecture – Participate in projects involving application development.
-Operations – Participate in operational projects requiring application development.
-Sales – Participate in scoping process for sales proposals.

-Hands-on expertise developing plugins for PHP
-Hands-on experience customizing templates in the code
-Ability to walk us through some of the main plugins you’d use to enhance features for custom fields, and how you’d implement those in a template
-Ability to walk us through the types of customizations you’ve built or added in code to WordPress
-At least 2 years experience in web and application development
-In-depth understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery
-Experience with CSS Preprocessors such as SASS or LESS
-Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications
-Experience designing and developing responsive design websites
-Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
-Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
-Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
-Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
-Proficient understanding of code versioning tools
-Ability to perform PHP back-end development
